DONATIONS:  Persons wishing to make a donation toward DNA testing for those who would like to test but cannot afford the cost may do so with a credit card or check by going to:

https://www.familytreedna.com/group-general-fund-contribution.aspx

Use the drop down box to choose the the letter B...then choose the BARLOW surname project.

TO REQUEST HELP IN PAYING FOR A DNA TEST:  Funding should be used only for those families that have thoroughly researched their family and and have hit a brick wall, have submitted their family lineage to the Barlow genealogy website, and cannot afford the test out of pocket, remembering that the test can only be done on a male descendant with the surname Barlow.  In most cases, only a 12 marker test will be paid for from the fund, and will let you know which group your family is from.  If further testing is in needed, a donor or donors interested in your family lineage will be solicited to aid in the cost.  Contact me at:  Susan BARLOW Holmes

We specifically need a donor from the Edmund of Malden family as the only verification that they are a part of the George of Sandwich and John of Fairfield Connecticut families comes from another database.  Of course, there are still many families that do not know which group they belong to, or if they are yet another line of Barlows.

BALANCE in the fund as of July 2012 is $80.00
Donations used:   $269 in donations were made for a 67 marker test for the Branson Barlow family, May 2007   $101 for 12 marker test for Kit #108451     $55 for Kit #108455, both on December 03, 2007

Thank you to: JOHNNY WADE BARLOW, JIM BARLOW, ROSEMARY BARLOW, WILLIAM BARLOW, ETHYL BRADSHAW, MARY BARLOW, CHARLIE RIBRON, RUTH SHELTON, BARLOW BAIT AND TACKLE SHOP, PET SITTERS PURRFECTION, BETTY BARLOW PRESCOTT, and a special thanks to LORA BETH BARLOW WRIGHT  (If I missed someone, please forgive me, and contact me so that your name may be added)

* Haplogroup descriptions at bottom of page.  Haplogroups in green have been confirmed by SNP testing. Haplogroups in red have been predicted by Family Tree DNA based on unambiguous results in the individual's personal page. This has been placed on this GAP page for your ease and convenience. Please note that for any predicted results we see no reason for ordering a SNP test to confirm the Haplogroup. If a is in the HAPLO field then we feel that the comparative results are not clear and unambiguous and if the kit holder wants to know their SNP with 100% confidence they may consider ordering a SNP confirmation test.   Click any highlighted number in a vertical line to view lineage of the person testing where available.

Lancashire England
Several lineages are related as shown in the following DNA testing, most have not yet been successfully linked together. Some of the earliest lineages that we know migrated to America include JOHN BARLOW OF FAIRFIELD CONNECTICUT, GEORGE BARLOW OF SANDWICH MASSACHUSETTS, and EDMUND BARLOW of MALDEN MASSACHUSETTS and though not all, but most have attributed their migrations to the Lancashire England area, other families claim lineages from Ireland and Scotland, as well as other parts of Europe.

HAPLOGROUP DESCRIPTIONS

Haplogroup R1b is the most common haplogroup in European populations. It is believed to have expanded throughout Europe as humans re-colonized after the last glacial maximum 10-12 thousand years ago. This lineage is also the haplogroup containing the Atlantic modal haplotype.
Haplogroup R1a lineage is believed to have originated in the Eurasian Steppes north of the Black & Caspian Seas. This lineage is thought to descend from a population of the Kurgan culture, known for the domestication of the horse (circa 3000 B.C.E.). These people were also believed to be the first speakers of the Indo-European language group. This lineage is found in central & western Asia, India, and in Slavic populations of Europe.
Haplogroup I dates to 23,000 years ago or longer. Lineages not in branches I1a, I1b or I1c are found distributed at low frequency throughout Europe.
Haplogroup J2 originated in the northern portion of the Fertile Crescent where it later spread throughout central Asia, the Mediterranean, and south into India. As with other populations with Mediterranean ancestry this lineage is found within Jewish populations.
