May 2001  Barlow and Allied Families
Hello Cousins.
I hope your  spring/summer is  going well.  I love all the greenery, but  it sure is  growing fast.   Won't  be long though, it will  burn up, if  the past few years are any prediction of this one.

The year  is sure  going fast, I cannot believe how  fast time passes  when you get older.  I seems the clock is whizzing around like a ceiling fan.

Sad  news to  report  this  month,  along  with  some good.  Our  dear cousin, Tammy   Collette  Barlow  Hasting  was  killed on  April 21, 2001 in a  car accident at the young age of 34. She leaves behind two young sons, Nicholas Barlow Looney,  who is about 10 years old, and an infant son, Grayson Noel Hasting, only 5 1/2 months old.   She  was  the daughter  of:

Gerald6 Wayne Barlow,   Henry5  Levert  Barlow,  Christopher  Columbus4  Barlow,  Henry3 Barlow, William2  Bryant Barlow, John1 Barlow

If any of  you would  like Gerald's  home address,  I will be  happy to provide that if you will contact me privately.

For  those of you who have  Jordan connections, another  death in the family, this was sent to me by Lora Beth Barlow Wright:

Although my father died when I was quite young, I didn't know him, and so, I have never really had to deal with death.   It seems now that all my kinfolk are beginning to  die  off,  the people whom I have been around all my life, and  I am not  sure I am going to deal well with it.     My  mother's  younger  brother, aged  55, died just this week.   Grandma is 88 years  young, and all of the rest of my mothers sisters range from 60 up to 70.  I think Grandma will outlive them all!

The good news.  We have gained a few new cousins this month.

Sharon Hyatt Armstrong, oldest of  two children  of Sherman Adron  Hyatt  (Hazlehurst) and mother,  JoAnn  Barlow Hyatt.  One  son  Ronald A. Hyatt  .    JoAnn was the 5th child  of Jennie Vee & John Wilkie Barlow, son of  George R. Barlow, who was son of John Wesley Barlow. She is  married to Fred Armstrong of Memphis, Tennessee, and had one son, Jordan Fredric Armstrong who moved to Heaven September 23, 1999.   He is buried in Beauregard cemetery.

Clenton Barlow meets us via the  Barlow Clearinghouse where he has discovered it our line of Barlow's he is searching for.    I sent him a small report, and  since he is so new to genealogy,  it only confused him,  so this months newsletter will deal  with his  direct lineage,  hopefully  it  will  help him  further  understand  where  he  comes from.   He lives in  Dallas Texas.

I got an email from Luther Hart who tells me about Camp Wesley Pines:

I talked  with the  manger of WP  and he said that we  needed 20 overnight people to keep the  price for the bedding and three meals, beginning with the night meal on Fri. (26) and ending with the lunch Sat. (27), in the $30 plus range  depending  on how  many per room 4 is  the limited per room.   He also said that those that lived a log distance  soul work out spending the Sat (27) night there.    He placed  the time  and  etc  in my name.

I wrote back to Luther asking for more detail, and wanting to know if we needed to put our money up front and decide who needs  rooms, etc .. but  have not heard back  from him yet.   I do need to gather information  from all of you who want rooms and how many will be in your party, so that we can at least have that ready when Luther  gets us an answer.  If we need to pay in advance, I will be happy to  handle the finances, or  perhaps it might be  better to deal directly with Camp Wesley Pines. Remember, the weekend of October 26-27-28 is what the reunion.

And now, on to the business of  family and genealogy.   This month is  dealing with the family of:

- George Washington Barlow and Flora Ann -

their children, along with their spouse and families.   Prominent names among this family will be Guynes, McDonald,  Mullican, Berry, Mahaffey and of course, Burkett.

See ya next month!   The June issue will be  devoted to the  Old Pleasant Valley Cemetery, and families buried within the cemetery.  If you have contributions, or photos, for any of the families buried within the cemetery, please get them to me as soon as possible so I can begin work on organizing and compiling the information.

Love, Susan
