Nancy Barlow and William B. Mullican, Jr.

--The Mullican and McDonald family avoided census takers, it seems--

Nancy3 Barlow, daughter of George Washington Barlow and Flora Ann Byrd, was born 1836 in Simpson Co Mississippi.

She married William B. Mullican, Jr.  c1853. He was born c1832.  

I believe after looking in several area's that William is the son of William B. Mullican and Mary Guynes.  Several researchers show that these two William's are brothers, and sons of Jeremiah Mullican and Frances Holbrook, but that just does not make sense to me.  I believe that Jeremiah and Frances are parents of William Sr., and grandparents of William who married Nancy Barlow.  I was unable to locate William or Nancy in 1880, which leads me to believe they are deceased, and from what I have been told, they were buried in the Old Stuckeytown Cemetery, which was some years ago, pushed off into the river, and is now, non-existant.

2.  Frances4 'Fannie' Mullican, was born May 22, 1855 in Mississippi and died September 22, 1924 in Rankin Co Mississippi

Jeremiah 'Jerry Myer' Mullican, born May 29, 1858 (1900 census shows him as born in May 1868) in Mississippi, and died August 16, 1949, burial in Harrisville Cemetery, Simpson Co Mississippi.    In the 1880 census of Steen's Creek, Rankin Co Mississippi, he is living with Joe McDonald, brother in law.
He married 1. unknown, who died before 1900, when he, at age 42, is  widower, living in the home of his cousin, James Mullican in Simpson Co Mississippi.
He married 2.)  M.E., full name unknown.    The only child known is Minnie Belle, who was born and died in 1902

2.  Frances4 'Fannie' Mullican, was born May 22, 1855 in Mississippi and died September 22, 1924 in Rankin Co Mississippi

She married Joseph Alexander McDonald on January 09, 1873 in Simpson Co Mississippi (court records)  He was born August 26, 1853, and died April 17, 1922.  Both are buried in Clear Branch Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi.

Frances death certificate #17129, proves her to be the daughter of William and Nancy Barlow Mullican.  I could not locate them in a 1900 or 1920 census record.

3. William Augustus 'Gus' McDonald, born February 05, 1874, and died July 13, 1949

4. Joseph Alonzo McDonald, born August 31, 1877 or 78 in Mississippi, and died January 06, 1940 in Mississippi

7. Sam Jones McDonald, born March 04, 1890 in Mississippi, and died February 21, 1972, burial in Clear Branch Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi. 

3.  William Augustus 'Gus'5 McDonald, born February 05, 1874, and died July 13, 1949, burial in Clear Branch Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi

He married Ollie Miller on November 29, 1896 in Rankin Co Mississippi.  She was born October 28, 1881, and died June 17, 1970, burial in Clear Branch Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi. 

4.  Joseph Alonzo5 McDonald, born August 31, 1877, and died January 06, 1940 in Mississippi, burial in Clear Branch Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi.  Some records show his middle initial as L., perhaps for 'Lon' such as his marriage record and cemetery records.

He married Fannie Harrison on July 12, 1898 in Rankin Co Mississippi. She was born May 07, 1882, and died June 10, 1967, burial in Clear Branch Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi. 

Anse / Anslem J.6 McDonald, born July 25, 1899 in Mississippi, and died April 09, 1938, burial in Clear Branch Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi
He married Vera
At least one son, Charles McDonald, born July 17, 1926, and died May 28, 1927, burial in Clear Branch Cemetery, Rank Co Mississippi.

Carrie Lee6 McDonald, born c1908 in Mississippi
She married Thomas Grantham and they had two daughters, Alma and Ella Agnes Alma had two children with her first husband, Leslie McAdams, the children were Daniel Fred and Sandra Lee. Ella Agnes 'Aggie' married John Allen McDonald, [unrelated]. They had John Allen Jr. and adopted two children, Daniel James [deceased] and Angela Joy.

7.  Sam Jones5 McDonald, born March 04, 1890 in Mississippi, and died February 21, 1972, burial in Clear Branch Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi.

He married Gracie Barlow on September 28, 1913 in Simpson Co Mississippi.  The daughter of Len M. 'Dock' Barlow and Mary Jane Nelson, she was born October 09, 1894, and died August 27, 1985 in Rankin Co Mississippi, burial in Clear Branch Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi.   Double Tombstone Photo from Find-a-Grave.com

Sammy J. McDonald, II, born January 26, 1931.  He married Effie Dell Rodgers.  She was born February 14, 1926.     They had one son:
Sammy J.7 McDonald, III, born August 05, 1960, and died January 29, 2002.   Sammy married Patricia Ann Grantham.  The daughter of James Roy Grantham and Mary Nell Jackson, she was born December 03, 1965, and died January 29, 2002.    James Roy Grantham is the son of Enoch Arden Grantham.

Sammy J. McDonald III   Florence

Dr. Sammy J. McDonald III, 41, a Minister, died Tuesday, January 29, 2002, at home. Services are 10 a.m. today at Harmony Baptist Church in Copiah County with burial in Clear Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Florence. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Mendenhall is handling arrangements.

Dr. McDonald was born August 15, 1960 to the late Sammy J. McDonald Jr. and Effie Rogers McDonald.

Patricia G. McDonald, 36, a teacher, died Tuesday, January 29, 2002, at home.

Services are 10 a.m. today at Harmony Baptist Church in Copiah County with burial in Clear Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Florence. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Mendenhall is handling arrangements.

Mrs. McDonald was born December 3, 1965 in Jackson. She was the daughter of Roy Grantham, who preceded her in death and Mary Nell Jackson Grantham.

Survivors include: mother, Mary Nell Grantham of Harrisville; brothers, Kenneth Grantham of Harrisville and James Roy Grantham Jr. of Harrisville; sister, Nancy Grantham of Harrisville and maternal grandfather, Enoch Grantham of Harrisville.

Burned up in a house fire.

They lived at 102 Moncure Rd, in the Clear Branch Community, Rankin Co. This is in the very Southwest corner of Rankin Co, and actually, just a very few miles due North of the Old Pearl Community which is in Simpson Co. The house was 88 years old. Edna Earle said she had heard or read that Sammy had mentioned that he needed to see about the wiring in the old house. If this was so, then Sammy realized that perhaps the wiring was old (and almost always too small), and that it might present a potential fire hazard. And so, this just might well have been the cause of the fire. They are still investigating it, but I haven't read where they have come to a conclusion. The autopsy reports show that they actually died from smoke inhalation, and then, of course, they burned up with the house. All five were buried today (Sat Feb 2) in the Clear Branch Baptist Church Cemetery outside Florence, MS (Rankin Co).
