William1 Ainsworth was born c1690 in Virginia, and died 1759 in Cumberland Co North Carolina.

He married Jennet / Janet

The first mention of William and Jennet is in the 1735 court record of the will of William Patterson of Accomack Co Virginia. They were not mentioned in the will but appeared in court to testify that although they had the legal right to inherit, they would not contest the will.

In William's will written in 1757, he mentions his wife and three sons, Levin, William Jr. and James Patterson Ainsworth. James Patterson later was in Burke Co NC and William was in Moore Co North Carolina.

Alternate spellings were Janet and Jeanette on various sources. Her last name is unknown but there is reason to believe that it might have been Patterson

I have found records for several other Ainsworth's who are thought to be related to this family, possible children, but have yet to find definite proof to connect them.

Levin Sr. sold land in both Cumberland Co NC and in Moore Co North Carolina in 1767

He is believed to have moved to SC around that time and showed up in the 1790 Cheraw District, SC census. The Cheraw District had become Chesterfield District in 1800

Levin3 Ainsworth, Jr. (Levin2, William1) was born c1760 in North Carolina, and died 1816 in Christian Co Kentucky

He married Nancy Welch about 1783.   Her last name has not been proven.   She was born in 1764 and died before 1850, her parents are unknown.

This Levin served in the Revolutionary War militia, under Colonel Brandon according to the book, 'Roster of South Carolina Patriots in the American Revolution' by Bobby Gilmer Moss

Jane P. Ainsworth, born 1792 in Chesterfield Co South Carolina, and died January 18, 1868 in Boone Co Missouri.
She married Peter McDonald December 16, 1815 in Christian Co Kentucky

David A.4 Ainsworth (Levin3, Levin2, William1) was born December 1785 in Newberry District South Carolina, and died 1861 in Mount Holly, Union Co Arkansas

He married Elizabeth Garrett March 26, 1812 or 1818 in Christian Co Kentucky.   She was born in 1795, her death date and parents names unknown.

John Garrett5 Ainsworth was born February 12, 1818 in Bound, Copiah Co Mississippi

He married Martha Ann "Mary" Brashears on September 15, 1850.  She was born c1825 in Sumpter Co Alabama, and died May 19, 1875 in Skullyville, Leflore Co Oklahoma

Elizabeth Ainsworth was born July 08, 1819 in Simpson Co Mississippi and died March 07, 1886 in Three Creeks, Union Co Arkansas, burial in Hopewell Baptist Cemetery, Union Co Arkansas

He married Nancy Pruitt on November 11, 1841 in Mississippi

Alfred Ainsworth birth born in 1840 and died May 27, 1911 in Union Co Arkansas, burial in Marysville Cemetery, Union Co Arkansas.
He married 1.) Susan Anna Morgan on January 27, 1859 in Union Co Arkansas. She was born July 13, 1840 in Alabama, and died September 16, 1883 in Union Co Arkansas, burial in Marysville Cemetery, Union Co Arkansas.
He married 2.) Margaret D. Jolly on June 05, 1884 in Columbia Co Arkansas. She was born November 27, 1859, and died October 16, 1935, burial in Marysville Cemetery, Union Co Arkansas.

Levin A.4 Ainsworth (Levin3, Levin2, William1) was born November 23 / 28, 1788 in Chesterfield Co South Carolina and died October 02, 1861 in Centralia, Trinity Co Texas, burial in Cavalry Cemetery, Trinity Co Texas

He married about 1811, his wife's name is unknown, she died in as a result of childbirth, with the birth of the their 3rd child, around 1817, the child unnamed, also died in birth.

He married 2) Mary A. 'Polly' Garrett May 23 / 28, 1818 in Christian Co Kentucky. She was born March 26, 1798 in South Carolina. I feel there is a good probability that Mary and Elizabeth Garrett are sisters, or at least cousins.

I have a written statement which states that my great great grandfather Levin Ainsworth, came to Texas from Mississippi. One of his sons, my great grandfather, John Garrett Ainsworth, born October 16, 1836. This document states that Levin Ainsworth settled in Trinity Co Texas, near Centralia.  It also states that John Garrett Ainsworth was married January 09, 1860, to Matilda Ann Buce, daughter of Bryan Buce. Matilda Ann Buce, was born in Titus Co Texas on March 08, 1841 and died December 13, 1917 at Kosse, Texas

John Garrett Ainsworth born October 16, 1836/37 in Simpson Co Mississippi and died November 12, 1919.
He married Matilda Ann/Annie Buce on January 09, 1860 in Trinity Co Texas. She was born in Titus Co Texas on March 08, 1841 and died December13, 1917 at Kosse, Texas. (one researcher shows her to be born in Alabama)   Her father was Bryan Buce.

James Taylor5 Ainsworth (David4, Levin3, Levin2, William1) was born March 03, 1831 and died March 31, 1864.

He married Elizabeth Smith on December 04, 1851 in Rankin Co Mississippi. She was born December 28, 1827 in Mississippi

John Levin5 Ainsworth (Levin A.4, Levin3, Levin2, William1) was born March 02, 1832 in Simpson Co Mississippi, and died in June 1917 in Groesbeck, Limestone Co Texas

He married Samantha Caroline Maness, on December 14l 1857 in Trinity Co Texas, daughter of Hiram and Lucinda Maness. She was born in 1840, Tennessee and died on June 08, 1898 in Limestone Co Texas

John served in Company G, 22nd Texas Infantry, Confederate States Army from 19 May 1862 until June 1865.   Source: History of Trinity County, page 167

He left his family in care of his father-in-law, Hiram Maness. Hiram was murdered while plowing in his field on April 12, 1864. When John heard about Hiram's death he came home to avenge it.   He looked for the murderer until he became satisfied that justice had been done, then he returned to the Army.

Joseph Ainsworth, born February 14, 1853 and died September 18, 1914, burial in Poplar Springs Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi.   Cemetery records shows year of birth as 1856, one of these dates if undoubtedly a transcription error.

Sudie D.6 Ainsworth, born March 03, 1873 and died October 09, 1893, burial in Harrisville Cemetery, Simpson Co Mississippi
She married Isaac T. Bell January 02, 1893 in Simpson Co Mississippi. He was born in 1869 and died in 1938, burial in Rexford Methodist Church Cemetery, Simpson Co Mississippi.   I do not know who Isaac's father is, but his mother is Mary Ellen 'Ella' Barlow, daughter of Narvle Barlow and Elisabeth Byrd

Frances Eliza "Fannie"6 Ainsworth (Jonathan Bass5, Richard A.4, Levin3, Levin2, William1) was born September 03, 1870, and died June 03, 1940, burial in Harrisville Cemetery, Simpson Co Mississippi

She married 1) Joseph Webster Byrd December 23, 1886, son of John and Charity Byrd.  He was born February 04, 1859 and died October 30, 1889, burial in Poplar Springs Cemetery, Rankin Co Mississippi

She married 2) Louis Bryant Barlow October 18, 1900 in Simpson Co Mississippi, son of Narvle Barlow and Elisabeth Byrd. He was born in 1849 and died 1912 with burial in Rexford Cemetery, Simpson Co Mississippi      (Click on his name for more of this family)

Franklin Berry6 Ainsworth (Jonathan Bass5, Richard A.4, Levin3, Levin2, William1) was born August 12, 1876 in Harrisville, Simpson Co Mississippi, and died January 29, 1947 in Corsicana, Navarro Co Texas.

He married Sarah Amanda Barlow October 12, 1900 in Harrisville Methodist Church, Harrisville, Simpson Co Mississippi, daughter of George Barlow and Minerva Hilton. She was born December 03, 1875 in Harrisville, Simpson Co Mississippi, and died May 30, 1967 in Corsicana, Narvarro Co Texas.
Both are buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Corsicana, Narvarro Co Texas

He married Emma Virginia Lockwood in 1919.

I did not find them in 1920.    In 1930, they live in Cameron Co Texas, with 1 child:  Virginia, age 2.

Bernice Franklin 'Dick' Ainsworth, born July 03, 1908 in Harrisville, Simpson Co Mississippi and died June 09, 1959 in Corsicana, Navarro Co Texas, burial in Prairie Point Cemetery, Bazette, Navarro Co Texas.  In 1930, he is a lodger in the Floyd Hawkins home, Navarro Co Texas

He married Ressie Thomas May 08, 1929 --another researcher says August 07, 1930-- in Chatfield, Navarro Co Texas.   After Bernice Franklin's death, Ressie married Robert Roosevelt Pease in January, 1963 in Corsicana, Navarro Co Texas.

She married William Bealon Ware December 31, 1932 in Corsicana, Navarro Co Texas.   He was born November 16, 1912 and died September 23, 1992

He married Carrie Sanders August 06, 1902 in Hazelhurst Copiah Co Mississippi, daughter of Charles Sanders and Eunice Williams.

Gertie7 Ainsworth, born 1904 and died May 29, 1995 in Simpson Co Mississippi.
She married John Astor Barlow c1935, they did not stay married long.   One child was born to this marriage, but died at birth. John was born December 14, 1885 and died April 18, 1963 and is the son of  John Barlow and Eliza Elizabeth 'Sally' Bell.    Gertie and John are buried in Harrisville Cemetery, Simpson Co Mississippi

Thomas W. 'Tommie' Ainsworth, born September 21, 1909 in Simpson Co Mississippi and died October 11, 1963 in Simpson Co Mississippi when he was crushed under a highway vehicle while doing highway construction.
He married Mamie Lou Burkett January 22, 1934. She was born April 16, 1915 and died September 26, 1996.   She is the daughter of John William Burkett and Maggie Lilly Buckley, grandaughter of Jefferson Davis Burkett and Margaret Mullican    Thomas and Mamie are buried in Harrisville Cemetery, Harrisville, Simpson Co Mississippi

Wilburn Eugene 'Buddy' Ainsworth, born July 13, 1905 in Simpson Co Mississippi and died May 13, 1983.
He married Johnnie Barlow in 1936. Johnnie was born August 24, 1917, and died in 2005.   She is the daughter of John Astor Barlow and his first wife, Gertrude Mitchell and her family owns the land where the George Washington Barlow Cemetery is located in Simpson Co Mississippi.

Florence

Wilburn E. Ainsworth, 77, died Friday at the Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Marvin United Methodist Church with burial in the Florence Cemetery. Baldwin - Enochs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A native of Harrisville, Ainsworth moved to Florence 37 years ago and became a member of the Masonic Lodge and a charter member of the Lions Club. He was also a member of the Marvin United Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Johnnie Ainsworth; daughters, Mrs. Carrie Smith of Bay St. Louis and Miss Liz Ainsworth of Jackson; sons, Mike Ainsworth of Jackson and Gene Ainsworth of Winston-Salem, N.C.; brothers, Roy Ainsworth of Richland and G.B. Ainsworth of Florence; sister, Gertie Ainsworth of Florence; and five grandchildren.

Johnnie Barlow Ainsworth, 87, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi, due to complications from a stroke.

Visitation is 5 - 8 p.m. today at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Richland and 1 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005, at Marvin United Methodist Church, Florence, Ms. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with burial to follow in the Florence City Cemetery.

The widow of W. E. Ainsworth, she was a longtime resident of Florence where she was an active member of the Marvin United Methodist Church. She is survived by her four children, Carrie Ainsworth Smith, W. Eugene Ainsworth, J. Michael Ainsworth, and Elizabeth Ainsworth Carter, as well as 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
