Abt 1701 when James was 21, he married JOHANNA, in Anne Arundel Co Maryland. She was born abt 1682 in Anne Arundel Co Maryland
Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol. V, Will of James Barlow

To sons Joab, Zachariah and John and their heirs, 300-acres ‘Harpole Qt’ - Harpole Quarter would be the name of the piece of land, possibly separate from the dwelling that wife Johanna received; son William a maintenance from estate for life wife Joahanna, dwelling plantation during life to pass to son Joab; residueof estate to wife & children, equally. Volume V of the Maryland Calendar of Wills, page 74

James Barlow of Baltimore Co, wife Johanna and sons Joab, Zacharia, John, William, a daughter Bathsheba and (probably) her husband John Marsh. Reference dates are 08 June and 02 October 1721 -- this would indicate that James had probably died by 02 October 1721 --

2. ZACHARIAH BARLOW2 (Zachariah1) born abt 1710 in Maryland and died aft 1777      He married MARY in Frederick Co Maryland, born in 1714.
Maryland Calendar of Wills, Vol. V, Bull Run Regional Library, Vol. 16.          Zachariah age at death: 67
It is assumed that Maryland was the state of residence for Zachariah on the 1790 census, 2 are found in the age range of this Zachariah:
Montgomery Co Maryland Zachariah Barlow:   2 free white males under the age of 16, 1 free white male over the age of 16, 3 free white females including all ages 1 slave
Anne Arundel Co Maryland Zachariah Barlow:   4 white males over 16, 4 white males under 16, 2 white females.
Research of Ralph Roscoe:   The Anne Arundel Co family appears to be a family that has been traced to North Carolina

Settlers of Maryland 1751-1765 Deed Books: BC5/5; BC 6/99       30 November 1755       Barlow, Zachariah owned “Long Looked For” in Baltimore Co Maryland, 300 acres

Zachariah and Mary Barlow, planter of Anne Arundel Co Maryland to Nathan Lewis, planter, of Baltimore Co Maryland L18, 100 acres.
Signed Zachariah (x) Barlow.      Witnesses: Nicholas Ruston Gay and William Lyon.
There is a discrepancy in the date of birth of Mary, wife of Zachariah. On the ancestral file, her date of birth is listed as 1714, which would make her 4 years younger than her husband and 41 years old for the birth of her last child, Elizabeth. On the 1776 census of Frederick Co, it lists a Mary in the household of John Barlow as age 78.   If this Mary is the wife of Zachariah, age 66 she would have been 12 years older than her husband and 57 for the birth of child Elizabeth. Therefore, it is assumed that the correct date of birth for Mary is probably 1714.
Children of Zachariah and Mary are:
3 i. JOHN BARLOW3 Born in 1745
ii. SUSANNA BARLOW Born abt 1747 in Maryland
iii. ZACHARIAH BARLOW, JR. / Unproven Child Born in 1750 in Maryland.
Index to Anne Arundel Judgments - Research of Ralph Roscoe
A Zachariah Barlow, born 1750 was listed as a Private, 4th Co Upper Baltimore Militia.   Therefore, there is a possibility that Zachariah Jr. became a Revolutionary War soldier.
Zachariah Barlow, Jr. born 1750 appear on the IGI as a child of Zachariah Barlow & Mary along with John, Susanna and Elizabeth. Therefore he might be the Zachariah who married Eleanor Hickman on 17 December 1799 in Frederick Co Maryland. However, on the 1776 census he is not listed in Frederick Co in the household of John with father Zachariah, mother Mary & sisters, Susanna and Elizabeth. He would have been 26. The lady next door to John and family was Priscilla Hickman, age 48 -- Eleanor’s mother?
The 1790 census of Frederick Co Maryland has a Zachariah Barlow heading a household that is listed as: 1 male over 16; 2 males under 16 and 3 females with 1 slave. The next-door neighbor is Elihu Hickman listed as 1 male over 16 with 6 slaves
iv. ELIZABETH BARLOW Born in 1755 in Maryland.
Generation 3
3. JOHN BARLOW3 (Zachariah2,Zachariah1) Born in 1745.     He married ANN Born in 1747.
1776 census of Frederick Co, now included in Montgomery Co Maryland:   John Barlow, age 31 Ann Barlow, age 21, Zachariah Barlow, age 3, Zachariah Barlow, age 66, Mary Barlow, age 78, Susanna Barlow, age 29, Elisabeth Barlow, age 21, and Virlinder Martain, age 7.
Since the IGI lists John, Susanna and Elisabeth as children of Zachariah and his wife Mary, it is assumed that Ann is the wife of John. The relationship of the Martain child to the Barlow family is unknown.
Research of Ralph Roscoe March 02, 1778, Anne Arundel Co Maryland:    John Barlow and Zachariah Barlow took the Oath of Allegiance before Hon. Reuben Mereweather
--Could the John and Zachariah who took the Oath of Allegiance be brothers or father and son?--

JAMES H. BARLOW
"To live in hearts we eave behind is not to die"
So we love to think of "Uncle Jim" Barlow as he was so familiarly known. And the sorrow always present in writing memories of our departed is almost turned to gladness when we think of the wonderful words left with friends, and we think of the wonderful words left with friends and the assurance of God's sustaining power give his pastor a few days before the divine call. He declared his readiness to go; adding that he was unafraid to cross the Great Divide.
James H. Barlow was the youngest son of George & Mary Barlow, and was born May 09, 1864. He answered the final call January 24, 1927, at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 15 days. Three sons proceeded him; Jesse, age 6; Harold, 8 months, & Everett, whom God had permitted to live and brighten their lives and home for nineteen happy years. The mother, Janet, remains to fulfill the scriptual words: "I shall not die, but live & declare the works of the Lord."
Uncle Jim, kept alive, also the traditional patriotic pride of his family, as evidenced by the presentation to friends for Christmas, 1922, a copy of the Memoirs of Corporal Benjamin Barlow sent the bereaved parents July 28, 1865, from Columbia, South Carolina, by S.J. Brooks, Lieutenant, 25th Ohio Volunteers. Corporal Barlow of Company I answered his last call to arms on July 23, 1865.
Uncle Jim was only one year old, May 9 proceeding. He grew up with just a pride of his 23 year old hero brother, who was one of the first to answer his country's call to preserve the Union. And three years failing to end the strife was one of the first to re-enlist, retaining the kind regards and good will of all his comrades and officers by his honesty and uprightness; all times at his post of duty; participation in all perils and glories of the Regiment; thereby winning the esteem of all in times of trial and danger. He was fortunate in that he carried no battle scars to his grave, but laurels on his brow. He left a medal of honor for gallantry in front of Ft. Wagoner South Carolina, August 28, 1863.
Uncle Jim had not the opportunity of war valor; but no doubt, was given many an impetus to conquer his difficulties by the memory of his soldier brother. And we can truly say, he was ever true to his convictions of duty, both to God and man. He was a home lover, and kept to the farm always. During the oil boom in this section, he was in great demand as a master rig builder. He was chosen, with his estimable wife, to care for the country home of Marion Robinson, the old estate of the late Hugh Robinson, which position he held until his health forced him to go back to his own neat little home just north of the estate.
Uncle Jim was quite patient during his long illness from a paralytic stroke and high blood pressure. His loving wife gave him every possible care and attention. She has nothing to regret, but needs much rest now, awhile for her labors. Her sister, Clara Hanson of Akron, was with her the last six weeks, the husband, Lafe Hanson, was a comfort to all during the last week, both remaining with Mrs. Barlow for some time after the call came. When they returned to their Akron home, they were accompanied to Cambridge by Mrs. Barlow as a guest of her niece, Mrs. Hattie Mallett-Brewer, where she will continue her rest.
Besides the soldier brother, Mr. Barlow was proceeded by Zachariah, John and George, also one sister. One sister, Mrs. Thompson, is still living.
In his early boyhood he was converted at the Southern Methodist Episcopal Church and remained a faithful member until God called him home.
The home choir were nieces and nephews. Reverend Suitor considerably furnished the music by members from Stafford. Frank McVay, Glad Ullman, Freeda Mallet, Mrs. Guy Blair assisted by Walter Draper. Mrs. Pauline Robinson-Miracle was organist. The appropriate songs, "Nearer my God to Thee", and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," were sung.
On Wednesday afternoon, scripture & prayer service was held at the home, the I.O.O.F. Bright Eyes Lodge, attending in a body. At the church, Rev. Suitor used as his text Revelations 21:4 "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away."
The I.O.O.F. brethern conducted their services at the cemetery, which were very appropriate and impressive, and with the realization that they were giving up one of their most loyal members.
He now rests from his labors in the Sutherland Cemetery.
James Barlow was initiated into the I.O.O.F. Bright Eyes Lodge, May 19, 1906, and became a past Grand July 18, 1908. He was ever ready to discharge his obligation to those in need and was an esteemed member until his earthly release came.
