From the research of Kelly Leighton w/ contributions by Susan BARLOW Holmes from information contained within this website
ALLEN BARLOW was born about 1811, one more of many Barlow inhabitants of Kentucky, and apparently died before the 1870 census.   His early life and ancestry are an unsolved mystery.   I find no record of him in the Civil War, nor any cemetery trace of him in Grundy Co's well publicized cemetery records.

There is an Allen Barlow recorded in the 1840 Decatur Co Indiana census that may be ours:

Barlow, Allen -- 1 male under 5 -- 1 male between 20 and 30 -- 1 female between 10 and 30 --

Allen lived in and was married in Decatur Co Indiana - possibly twice, the second to my ancestor ELLEN SNELLING on March 03, 1845, then moved to Boone Co Indiana. There were other Barlow families in Boone Co, but no known relationship has been found.

Thomas Barlow  2     Indiana
Francis F. Barlow  6mo     Indiana

Allen is mentioned in a book called "Furniture Makers of Indiana, 1793-1850" written by Betty Lawson Walters, 1972, Indiana Historical Society, though Kelly neglected to give details or the page of that mention.
Allen and Ellen had migrated to Missouri by the 1860 census. A land record, indexed as 1857, not 1852, as written on the deed would seem to indicate, signaled his arrival in Grundy Co.

Henry Barlow  3     Missouri
Elizabeth Scott 63     Kentucky
Observations: Frances / Francis spelling has changed on this census, as well as the gender, an obvious error made by the census taker.
Also, I am curious about Elizabeth Scott, I did note that a Scott family was located a few doors away in the 1850 census, though it is almost illegible, and I cannot tell if Elizabeth's name is on that record. She could be the mother of Ellen or Allen, or perhaps even a sister of one of them, or she may be no relation at all.

Note that another child was born, Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Barlow born on the 13th of June 1862, near Trenton Missouri, in Marion Twp. Grundy Co according to her death certificate.  She is my descendant.

Ellen Barlow moved to Bates Co Missouri and appears in 1880 census.

No record of Ellen in the 1900 Missouri census has been found. It is possible that she remarried after 1880.
Children of Allen Barlow and Ellen Snelling are:
WILLIAM B. or P.  BARLOW, born January 1846 in Kentucky, and died 21 April 1911, burial in Rich Hill, Bates Co Missouri.
He married CLARA.  She was born February 1854, and died 08 September 1922, burial in Rich Hill, Bates Co Missouri.   Clara had apparently been previously married to a Carter as is evident in the 1900 census of Bates Co Missouri
Note that William's middle initial in the census of 1870 and 1880 is shown as 'B' but in this the cemetery transcription, it is shown as 'P', I tend to think the P is incorrect.

William was in the Civil War and applied for a pension. The 1890 veteran's census records his dates of enlistment and release.    From Edson Barlow's military records:

THOMAS BARLOW, nothing more is known
FRANCES T. or F. 'FRANK' BARLOW, born March 1850, is shown as a widower living with his brother, William in the 1900 census of Bates Co Missouri
I found another Frank Barlow, also in 1900 Bates Co, Osage Township, Roll #839, Dwelling 71 Family 71 -- Barlow, Frank, single, age 50, born March 1850 in Indiana, father born in Kentucky, mother born in Tennessee, a boarder in the home of James Quinn. While the census where Frank is shown to be living with his brother, is certainly the Francis, it does state him to be born January 1850, whereas this record shows the correct date of March 1850. I am curious as to know if this person is related.
MARY C. BARLOW, nothing further is known
SABRINA BARLOW born 15 July 1853 in Indiana, and died 13 September 1912 in Bates Co Missouri.
She married GEORGE BOOTH in in Bates Co Missouri on 11 September 1873.  He was born 18 August 1851 in Coatsburg, Adams Co Illinois.
From cemetery records of Double Branches Cemetery, Rich Hill, Bates Co:
CHARLES S. BOOTH, s/o George Booth & Sabrina Barlow & h/o EMILY CAROLINE BAILEY died 17 July 1963, age 80y 11m 11d
Also born to Sabrina and George:  THOMAS JESSE BOOTH born 21 January 1878 in Butler, Bates Co Missouri.   His death certificate shows his mothers name to be Malissa Barlow Booth.
REBECCA BARLOW, nothing further is known
HENRY BARLOW, nothing further is known.
ELIZABETH 'LIZZIE' BARLOW, born 13 June 1862, and died 10 February 1939.
She married WILLIAM HENRY GROVES in Bates Co Missouri on 18 November 1885. He was born 31 May 1865, and died 09 June 1945.
Children of Lizzie and William are:
CARRIE GROVES born September 1885
IRA RAYMOND GROVES born 09 October 1888, and died 25 July 1950.  He married KATIE CLARAICE THOMAS.  She was born 25 June 1911, and died 03 January 1972.

The GROVES Family is outlined in Kelly's Family TreeMaker Site
Other notes of interest:
An Allen Barlow married Betsy Utz and some data can be found on this man, but he is not our Allen. It is unknown if this man is related somehow to our Allen.
Hendricks Co Indiana death records do show that an A. Barlow and a ___ Tapmen were the parents of a Lucinda Barlow, born 16 October 1830, in Kentucky. She died in Hendricks Co on 04 July 1904. The reference for Lucinda's death is at the Hendricks Co Courthouse in Danville, book 49, page 62.  Perhaps it has more information on the parents? It is possible that our Allen and a first wife, noted on the 1840 census of Decatur Co are the parents of Lucinda.
If anyone can add to this family, it would surely be appreciated.
